For the Wolf By: Hannah F. Whitten

I was drawn to this book by the cover, title and description. I love stories like this and this one didn’t disappoint. The story follows two sisters on their separate paths. The descriptions of the wilderwood were fantastic and there was a real atmosphere or darkness and danger present throughout the whole book. The romance was very well done. There was action and suspense throughout and overall I really enjoyed this book. I’m definitely looking forward to book two! Just can’t get over how pretty the cover is!

Within These Wicked Walls by: Lauren Blackwood

The first thing I read about this book was the description of: An Ethiopian-inspired fantasy retelling of Jane Eyre. That’s all I needed to see and I was in. And what an adventure! This book came complete with a creepy haunted castle, ghosts, romance and of my course, plenty of banter. Andromeda was a wonderful character and I really enjoyed reading her story. Magnus was a very flawed hero and I really liked the way his character was done. There was action and some tear-jerking moments as well and overall this was a wonderful read.

Vespertine by: Margaret Rogerson

Another great book by Margaret Rogerson. I absolutely fell in love with her writing when I read Sorcery if Thorns and this book was just as amazing. She has amazing world building skills and her character development is always great! I loved Artemisia and her story. The revenant was very well written and the story moved at a wonderful pace. There was a wonderful set of side characters as well that kept the story moving. The banter in this book was excellent as well and there was humor laced throughout. This is a world k very much want to read more about and I believe this is going to be a duology, which is awesome! And the cover! Charlie Bowater always does amazing cover art. Love it.

The Storm of Echoes By: Christelle Dabos

This book was so brilliant and such an amazing ending to the series. When I started reading the first book, I knew I would love this series and this final book didn’t disappoint. The story is so wonderfully unique, so incredibly imaginative and creative, I can honestly say I have never read anything like it. I honestly wish it wasn’t over! Ophelia is such a brilliant character, so strong and intelligent but wonderfully human. Thorn is amazing and flawed and very relatable. The story flows so well and the pacing was amazing. I can’t wait to re-read this series once I have the hardcover of this book in my hands. Just a few more months and I’ll be reading these four books again.

Book one: A Winter’s Promise
Book two: The Missing of Clairdelune
Book three: The Memory of Babel
Book four: The Storm of Echoes

The Mask of Mirrors by: M.A. Carrick

I thought this was going to be a slower read for me, but I was very wrong. This story drew me in right away once I met Ren and Tess. The strengths of their character was plain to see from the get go and I loved them immediately. The world building was very detailed and in depth, just adding layers to an already rich story. The magic system was very interesting and well described. There wasn’t a lot of romance, but there is the hint of more to come. The characters themselves were all amazingly well done. Very well fleshed out and I actually enjoyed reading about all of them, which to be honest, doesn’t always happen. There is plenty of mystery and intrigue, but also a wonderful amount of suspense and action. This is the first book I have read of either of these authors, but that’s something I plan to remedy very soon. I would definitely consider this to be an epic fantasy, but at over 800 pages it honestly didn’t seem long enough. I’m going to buy this book as soon as it comes out and will eagerly be awaiting the next instalment. I was very impressed by this book.

Rebecca by: Daphne Du Maurier

This was a book I had been meaning to read for years but never got around to. The last couple of months I’ve been on a bit of a gothic book binge, so I figured it was time. This book was a surprising read. I wasn’t entirely sure what to expect, but I was pleasantly surprised. The story was smooth and I really enjoyed the characters. The atmosphere was perfectly done and it made Manderly itself feel like its own character. I can definitely see why this book is considered a classic. I really enjoyed this book and am very interested in reading her other books. This was a perfect curl up and be cozy read and I highly recommend it.

Three Dark Crowns By: Kendare Blake

This book was recommended to me by a friend that reads a lot of the same books as me and this story was surprising to me in many ways. The characters were believably flawed and even at times irritating, but I still wanted to know what would happen to them. There were constant surprises and a sense of foreboding through the whole book. The story is told in the 1st person POVS of the three sisters, and while it took a little bit to get used to, I soon found myself swept up in their story. I stayed up very late reading this, as I really wanted to know what would happen. I definitely recommend it, but I also recommend you have the next book in the series handy, because you’ll be wanting to jump right into it!

Three Dark Crowns

Crown of Coral and Pearl By: Mara Rutherford

Firstly, the cover is lovely as is the title. I was intrigued right away and then even more so when I read the description. And I am truly glad I read this one! I was hooked immediately by the characters and the setting. The dynamic between the sisters was wonderfully done and you could really feel their love for each other. The setting was beautifully described, the sun, the heat, the saltiness of the ocean. It was all perfect. It doesn’t take long for the story to really pick up, either, and once it did it was impossible to put down. The story takes a darker turn, but it is well worth the read. Nor is an amazing and strong main character and I liked her a lot. The only thing about this book was that I found the ending to be rather abrupt and felt it could have been fleshed out a bit more, but otherwise this was just a great read! Highly recommend.

Hardcover

A Sorcery of Thorns by: Margaret Rogerson

I loved this. I loved this so much. I had previously read An Enchantment of Ravens and enjoyed that greatly, but this book was so much more. A book about sorcery, libraries and magical books. Did I mention magical books? This book is a fantasy and book-lover’s dream. It at once had mystery, fantasy, a lovely romance and just the right amount of suspense. Also Silas. He was amazing. Such a well done character. All the characters were well done, but he truly stood out and was extremely well written I enjoyed this book so much. I am definitely going to buy myself a copy when it is released. I would also buy this for friends as a gift ’cause I feel like anyone that loves books and magic would adore this book as much as I did.

Sorcery of Thorns

A Sky Without Stars By: Jessica Brody/Joanne Rendell

This book hooked me right off the bet. This is apparently a sci-fi retelling of Les Miserables, which I will admit I have not read. Either way, this book was interesting all on its own. Great characters that were well fleshed out, the world building was excellent and the action was great. I enjoyed the sci-fi and french elements that really fleshed out the story and the world in which it takes place. Not to mention, the cover looks amazing! I truly do recommend this book if you’re looking for some exciting and adventurous. It is a long book, but you won’t notice that at all!
